Saban and wife pledge $1 million to Alabama

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, have pledged $1 million to the university for scholarships designed to help first-generation college students.

Commentary: The scholarships announced Saturday for first-generation college students do not represent the Sabans' first foray into scholarship aid, as they had already funded scholarships for six students through a $100,000 gift they made last January.

Nick Saban has indicated that both he and his wife are first-generation college graduates.
