There are obviously a bevy of talented freshman coming to the Alabama Crimson Tide football team this season. After all, what happens when yours is the No. 1-rated recruiting class is that potentially excellent players join your program.

One of those players coming to Tuscaloosa in 2008 is Alonzo Lawrence, a 6-foot-1, 187-pound cornerback from George County High School in Lucedale, Miss., who runs the 40-yard dash in a speedy 4.43 seconds. Lawrence also possesses a 36-inch vertical leap, speaking to his sheer athleticism. In fact, Rivals says he is the best athlete of all the cornerbacks in the 2008 class and the second-best overall CB.

Perhaps the 54 tackles and one pick he put up as a junior in high school had something to do with the fanfare. If not, maybe the whopping 93 tackles, two interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and four sacks he posted as a senior put him over the top.

To top things off, Lawrence accumulated 772 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior.

"I have good speed and am tough. I can press and jump and am really athletic, but I need to improve on my technique and precision, especially with my hands,” Lawrence once said when referencing his recruiting status and what he needed to work on.

Well, the 35th-best prospect in his entire recruiting class will get to work on that and more with the Tide this season.

Don’t be surprised if he impresses right off the bat.
