At halftime of his team's 34-10 loss to Alabama last Saturday, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden summed up the play of his team quite nicely.

“We’re getting outhit. I mean, they’re tougher than we are right now. We’re not very physical," he said.

The Crimson Tide dominated the contest on every level.

Defensively, Alabama held the Tigers' fantastic running back duo consisting of James David and C.J. Spiller to just 20 ground yards.

In the end, Clemson was only able to accrue 186 total yards. Last season, the Tigers averaged over 400 per game.

But that’s not where Bama’s smash-mouth ways ended. Offensively, the team's line mauled a defense that ranked ninth in America in 2007 en route to 230 rushing yards and a terrific night from quarterback John Parker Wilson -- who threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Entering the Clemson game, the thinking was that Bama would be a mid-tier team in the Southeastern Conference this year. Now, though, many are wondering if the youth-laden Tide is destined for much more.
