Here’s this week’s version of "SEC: Fastball" for you.

Alabama shouldn’t worry about rankings: Lots of people are talking ifs again. For example, if the Penn State Nittany Lions and Alabama Crimson Tide were to both go undefeated, who would get to play the Texas Longhorns? Don’t get caught in all the hoopla. Why?

Because it’s doubtful that both teams will go undefeated. Unfortunately for Nick Saban’s club, it still has to throw down with SEC heavyweight LSU and hated rival Auburn before possibly playing in the conference title game. Oh, and there’s also the Tennessee Volunteers -- whom Alabama takes on this weekend in Knoxville. Penn State, on the other hand, still has to play at Ohio State this weekend and will face Michigan State in its final game.

And don’t act as if Texas is a shoo-in to go undefeated, either. The Longhorns still have to play Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Kansas before a possible berth in the Big XII championship game.

Ole Miss looks good in losing: On one hand, people are talking about how Alabama didn’t look dominant against the Ole Miss Rebels this past weekend, only winning by a score of 24-20. Well, the flip side of that is that Ole Miss is good.

Remember, this is a club that has lost four games by a total of only 19 points. What’s more, Ole Miss is the only team that was able to defeat the Florida Gators. Anyone want to take a chance on Houston Nutt now? He’s only a couple of years from making the Rebels a legitimate contender.

Don’t forget about Georgia: Sure, they got hammered by Alabama. Still, the Bulldogs have only lost one game. If they were to win out against LSU, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn and Georgia Tech, and all of the other true contenders save one ended up losing a game, you’d be hard-pressed keeping them out of the BCS title game.

Auburn not playing a good thing?: The bottom line is that when the Tigers don’t play, their offense can’t disappoint.

Tennessee makes a statement: A 34-3 win over Mississippi State impressive, even if Sylvester Croom’s crew is only 2-5 now. Who knows, maybe Phil Fulmer’s ready to make another comeback.
