Apache Junction High (Apache Junction, Ariz.) athlete Shane McCullen gave his solid verbal to Arizona State on Tuesday for the 2009 class.

Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals, the 6-foot-2, 193-pounder likely will play a linebacker-safety hybrid position.

McCullen chose ASU over many schools, including Cal, Stanford and Washington State. Grady Stretz is credited as the primary.

COMMENTARY: McCullen is the fifth pickup for ASU's ’09 class. So far, everyone in the class is a three-star athlete.
