The Auburn Tigers are known for their running backs. Anybody that has ever even remotely followed the team is aware of this. In fact, many believe that over past few decades one would be hard pressed to find a team that has put out more bona fide talent at the position.

We’re talking Bo Jackson, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, Ronnie Brown, William Andrews, Joe Cribbs, Rudi Johnson, Stephen Davis, Kenny Irons, and James Brooks just to tip the iceberg. In other words, there are plenty more.

Will Onterrio McCalebb be another in Auburn’s long line of outstanding running backs?

Onterrio McCalebb is a 6 foot, 170 pound running back with 4.35 speed from Fort Meade High School in Fort Meade, Florida. Interestingly, McCalebb says that his goal is to run a 4.2. In other words, he’s small, very quick, and fast. Further, he’s been productive. As a junior in high school McCalebb managed 1,500 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns. Thus, as per the touchdowns, he’s a big play waiting to happen. What’s more, he managed 500 yards and six touchdowns receiving.

Remember: That was as a junior. As a senior, McCalebb managed 1,995 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns to go along with 11 receptions and 300 yards receiving. He’s also an excellent kick returner that brought two to the house last season.

In other words, McCalebb could end up being a running back, wide receiver, kick/ punt returner, or some type of hybrid in college. Sounds good for that new spread offense, no?

McCalebb is considered to be the 13th best all purpose back in the nation by Rivals. He’s also believed to be the 39th best 2008 prospect from the state of Florida. So Auburn has once again landed some big time talent at the position. Lucky that McCalebb chose them over the Michigan Wolverines, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, South Florida Bulls, West Virginia Mountaineers, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Clemson Tigers. He should be a real good one.
