Sometimes it’s tough being a freshman offensive lineman on an SEC team, considering it’s a big jump from high school to arguably college football's best conference. What's more, you have to learn a new offense.

Still, it doesn’t appear any of that bothered the 6-foot-4, 284-pound Ryan Pugh last year. Despite all the fanfare surrounding left tackle King Dunlap entering the 2007 season, Pugh -- then a true freshman -- actually outplayed Dunlap and eventually took over as the starter for six games, faring well in the process.

This season, Pugh -- who was a four-star recruit coming out of high school -- will man the right tackle position, with Lee Ziemba moving to the left side. Once Jason Bosley graduates, expect Pugh to move to center, where he's thrived in the past.

In the end, Pugh has "All-SEC" written all over him; even better for Auburn is that Ziemba and 2007 freshman offensive line starter Chaz Ramsey might, too. Offensive line coach Hugh Nall is excited about the trio.

“I was most impressed with the way they played," Nall said. "Their mentality, their tempo, their aggressiveness, how they didn’t let serious situations rattle them.”

And that’s good news for whomever the Tigers decide to start at quarterback.
