Can overlooked Green become All-SEC guard?

Phil Steele recently released his 2008 All-SEC Preseason Team, and it didn't include Auburn's starting left guard, Tyronne Green, anywhere.

While the Tigers' offensive line hasn’t exactly been stellar the past two seasons, it did progress as last year wore on. What’s more, if a Tigers senior had in the past managed to start 12 of 13 games the previous campaign, as Green did, he almost certainly would receive mention on some preseason All-SEC team. Not Green, though.

"Tyronne is a smart kid who listens well. He watches the other guys and sees them doing something and learns from that," said O-line coach Hugh Nall before last season.

In fairness, Green wasn't always consistent in 2007. Green had his moments, though, such as when he was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Vanderbilt game.

Still, the second-year starter is being overlooked (just as he was coming out of high school in 2004, when he was a two-star recruit) entering this season.

The bottom line is that the rubber is about to meet the road for this senior offensive guard. Green wasn’t one of those guys who was given everything on a silver platter prior to joining Auburn; rather, he had to prove his worth with the Tigers. Will he take things a step further? He’s already proven that the two-star status was bogus, as he’s about to embark on a second consecutive season as an SEC starter; but can he prove to be an All-SEC performer?

Don't bet against him.
