If anyone can come forward and prove that he or she believed the Auburn Tigers would hold a 4-5 overall record at this point in the season, that person should be given fortune teller status.

Tony Franklin and the spread offense, a returning offensive line with experience, and some serious talent on defense had those associated with the Tigers feeling quite positive at the start of the 2008 season.

But things have gone downhill quickly, and it’s been difficult to find a lot of positive things to say about the Tigers.

One standout on the team has been defensive end Antonio Coleman, who leads the Tigers with six sacks (No. 1 in the SEC) on the season, and he's pacing the conference in tackles for a loss. He’s also posted 40 tackles, including 10.5 for a loss.

No one knows if the junior will choose to stay in school or move to the NFL at the close of the season. What is known is that if he did leave, he’d almost assuredly be drafted in one of the opening two rounds -- probably the first -- making the idea no doubt enticing, especially considering his nearly serious offseason injury coming into 2008. Regardless, Coleman is one sack short of breaking into Auburn’s all-time top 10 for his career. He’s having a great season.

Too bad it’s so hard to notice during such a down year.
