When Auburn Tigers junior cornerback Jerraud Powers made the announcement that he would be leaving school early to pursue an NFL career, many were surprised. As well as Powers had played over the past two seasons, he hadn’t exactly been a huge name.

“I want to thank the Auburn nation for their support during my career," Powers said in a university release. "It was a very tough decision, but I did what God wanted me to do and what was best for my family and me. I'm thankful for my time at Auburn and will have nothing but fond memories."

Let’s take a look at where Powers might fall in April's NFL draft.

Height: 5-foot-9
Weight: 184 pounds
40-yard dash time: 4.46
Position: Cornerback

Before Auburn: Played for Decatur High School in Alabama, managing 102 tackles and eight interceptions during his sophomore and junior seasons.

2006: Powers made the freshman All-SEC team as a cornerback. He amassed 26 tackles and broke up four passes.

2007: Powers started every game for the Tigers and racked up 63 tackles and four interceptions.

2008: Powers put up 47 tackles and two interceptions, starting 10 games.

Draft prediction: Powers is pretty strong for a cornerback and hits hard for the position. He also has good ball skills and reasonable speed. However, his height and size will hurt him, as will his overall lack of notoriety. If Powers had stayed another season, he could have improved on the latter.

Regardless, he’s looking at the second day of the draft. Figure on him going in Round 5.
