Auburn Tigers head coach Gene Chizik apparently likes quarterbacks who are athletic and possess dual-threat ability.

Such is the case with recent verbal commit Tyrik Rollison, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound four-star dual-threat passer from Sulphur Springs, Texas, who runs the 40-yard dash in only 4.55 seconds. He also bench presses 235 pounds, squats 405 pounds, and owns a 28-inch vertical leap.

But it’s how Rollison performed in high school that’s truly been impressive. As a junior, he rushed for 554 yards and seven touchdowns; by itself, that’s not bad by any means, but it's hardly award-winning. But once you factor in that Rollison also completed 296-of-420 passes for 3,691 yards and 37 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions, you realize that he can do it all.

Which is exactly what Auburn needs in a quarterback. Those of the dual-threat variety have often done better than drop-back passers for the Tigers, regardless of coach or style of offense. And there are reasons why Rollison is considered the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2009 class. He appears to have the pocket awareness that all true scramblers must possess; moreover, he was extremely accurate throwing the ball in high school.

The bottom line is that Rollison was a huge high school success in Texas, which is a huge accomplishment. And when Auburn opens up practice next season, it'll have the gifted Rollison and the athletic Kodi Burns taking snaps.

For a guy who caught a lot of flak when he came to Auburn, Chizik's certainly doing a fine job recruiting.
