There has been a lot of talk about the Auburn Tigers needing to find a playmaker on offense, particularly at the wide receiver position. Well, a lot of people are continuing to talk about Phillip Pierre-Louis and rightfully so. Pierre-Louis has the kind of speed and quickness needed to make plays against SEC defenses. That said, he has been somewhat limited in his ability to practice during spring ball because he's coming off ACL surgery.

But that doesn't mean that no one out there is impressing at receiver. In fact, one of the players who has caught the attention of coaches during spring ball, particularly receivers coach Trooper Taylor, is wideout Darvin Adams.

Adams has been found manning the role of inside receiver in offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's system at times this offseason, and have been good thus far. It shouldn't necessarily be a surprise, as Adams is tall (6-foot-3) and has the speed for the position. What's more, he has always been a pretty productive player. Back in high school (2007), he managed 66 catches for 867 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season (his first at receiver). Adams was also a good enough athlete to total 15 passing touchdowns and five rushing scores during his junior campaign; those TDs complemented his 52 tackles and six interceptions as a defender.

With his toughness and athleticism, both key for playing the inside receiver position, Adams may come through as an important offensive player in 2009 for the Tigers.
