Auburn Tigers defensive coordinator Ted Roof made a couple of changes at linebacker over the weekend. One was to move Eltoro Freeman to the first-string weakside spot. Does that mean Freeman, a junior college transfer, is the starter for good? No. But it does show that he has a strong shot at taking the starting role from sophomore Spencer Pybus.

"(Freeman's) doing a good job," Roof said. "There's nobody that's got that thing locked down. It's a battle and you want competition. You're trying to create depth with that so we'll see how it plays out."

Freeman, a four-star prospect back in 2007, was supposed to join the Tigers out of high school. Unfortunately, he was found academically ineligible at the time and therefore set out for Gulf Coast Community College, where he posted 65 total tackles, including 17 for a loss, and five sacks as a freshman.

Luckily for Auburn, he decided to recommit to this past offseason. When you consider the fact that he reportedly ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash in high school to go along with a 385-pound bench press, there are a lot of reasons to feel good about his chances of starting on the weak side. Of course, it helps that Freeman was a big-time on-field producer in high school.

Freeman is the whole package, clearly, and it will be interesting to see how his summer plays out.
