Auburn Tigers football fans are a highly dedicated bunch and deservedly so. After all, the Tigers have a rich history that includes some great players having suited up for them. Moreover, they've had clear success in the toughest football conference in the land, the SEC, and won championships there. Still, when it comes to comparisons to storied programs like the Texas Longhorns, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Michigan Wolverines and Alabama Crimson Tide, for example, the Tigers often seem to take a back seat in terms of perceived clout.

Well, perhaps they shouldn't.

There are a lot of ways that programs are measured. When it comes to national championship runs, the Tigers fall far short of some of the aforementioned programs. But when it comes to money currently getting raked in, not so.

According to a recent report released by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal, the Auburn football program pulled in a whopping $59.67 million in revenue in 2007-08. It was the sixth-highest total in all of college football. Below are the top 10 totals brought in (in millions).

1. Texas: $72.95
2. Georgia: $67.05
3. Florida: $66.1
4. Ohio State: $65.16
5. Notre Dame: $59.77
6. Auburn: $59.67
7. Michigan: $57.46
8. Alabama: $57.37
9. Penn State: $53.76
10. LSU: $52.68

Now consider this: Many of the teams that ranked ahead of the Tigers -- for instance, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and Ohio State -- were playing quite well during the span of time in question. Notre Dame, of course, is a program that has broad national appeal. Said another way, considering the somewhat lousy recent seasons the Tigers have been putting up, their ranking on this list is impressive.

Even more impressive, by the way, than instate rival Alabama. Now that's something Auburn fans will like hearing.
