It doesn’t get much more exciting than the pulse pounder put on display by the Auburn Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels last Saturday. Rushing touchdowns, passing touchdowns, a pick six, a kickoff return for six more and a defensive 2-point conversion adding up to 36 points scored all within the span of fifteen minutes. Third quarters don’t get much wilder, even if you’re watching the Iowa game.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik called it “pretty incredible” and went on to say, “I went through every emotion, high and low, you can go through in 15 minutes." That about says it all.

Auburn fans of all sorts, whether you’re into defense, run game or pass game, could find something to love in this one. Especially the final 33-20 score.

For anyone who loves running backs, Ben Tate’s 53-yard blast for six would certainly do the trick, especially when you consider it was just a part of his overall 144-yard performance.

Or, if passing is more up your alley, how about Kody Burns one and only completion for a fourteen yard score?

But, the best was saved for those who love defense. Not only did Walter McFadden take a pick 29-yards to the house, but Demond Washington followed that with a seldom seen 2-point defensive conversion off a blocked extra point.

And, don’t forget, all that happened in the third quarter. Considering Auburn put 23 on the board in the opening part of the second half and Ole Miss could only land 20 points in the entire game, it wouldn’t seem like this was much more than a blowout.

However, Auburn wasn’t the only scoring machine via big plays in the third. Ole Miss’ return man Jesse Grandy took a kickoff return 82 yards to pay dirt and Dexter McCluster went wild for 79 yards in one play as part of his game best 182 yards on the ground.

And, that’s where Auburn coach Chizik felt his heart racing and his adrenaline pumping.

While the Tigers finally wrapped up their win, and the fourth quarter sleepily drew to a close with no more scoring, it might be a few days before anyone comes down off this wild ride. Especially the Auburn players who showed us just why many believe NCAA Football is the most exciting variation on the game available anywhere.
