If necessary, Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith is apparently prepared to let Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton battle for the team's quarterback position for the entire preseason.

Commentary: "Ideally you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason," Smith said Saturday. "But we'll just let it play out. If it's not clear by then, we'll let it go right up until (preseason's end)."

The comments seem to serve notice that it's more important to Smith to get it done right than fast. Thus, both Orton and Grossman should get plenty of opportunities to show their mettle.
