Michael Smith of ESPN is reporting the Bears and linebacker Brian Urlacher have agreed to a reworked contract, worth an estimated $43 million over the next six seasons.

The deal will give Urlacher approximately $18 million in new money, and it added one year to the five seasons he had left on his previous contract. Urlacher had five sacks and five interceptions to go along with 123 tackles for an injury-depleted Bears team that went from champs to chumps in one season. Chicago finished 7-9 after winning the NFC championship in 2006.

Commentary: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Urlacher had been pining for a new contract for most of the offseason. Few could say they've earned one more, however. He's been to six Pro Bowls and has been named to The Associated Press' All-Pro team four times in his eight-year career.

Fantasy Impact: Urlacher will again be a driving force for a Bears defense that also locked up defensive tackle Tommie Harris this offseason. A healthy supporting cast will make this one of the best defensive units in the league again.
