LAKE FOREST, Illinois (Ticker) - Muhsin Muhammad did not have to wait long to find a party interested in his services. Muhammad agreed to a six-year contract with the Chicago Bears on Saturday, one day after being released by the Carolina Panthers. Financial terms were not disclosed, but according to a report on ESPN.com, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver likely will be guaranteed $10 million and receive an average of at least $5 million over the first three seasons.

After failing to work out a contract extension that would have lessened a $10 million bonus due March 1, the Panthers waived their all-time leading receiver Friday. In 2004, Muhammad had 93 catches and set career highs with 1,405 receiving yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns - 13 more than Chicago's receivers combined for last season. His outstanding season came amid key injuries to several offensive players, including fellow WR Steve Smith and running backs Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster.

The 6-2 Muhammad will join another team that had its 2004 season affected by injury. Beginning in 2005, Muhammad will be on the receiving end of passes from Rex Grossman, who was lost for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a knee injury in Week 3.

Muhammad spent his first nine seasons with Carolina and caught 578 passes for 7,751 yards and 44 touchdowns. He had a career-high 102 receptions in 2002 and set the franchise mark with seven 100-yard receiving games last year. The 31 year-old Muhammad also holds the distinction of scoring the longest touchdown in Super Bowl history, hauling in an 85-yard scoring pass from Jake Delhomme against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII. He had four catches for 140 yards in the 32-29 loss.
