According to recent published reports, the Chicago Bears are talking about pursuing Pittsburgh Steelers' wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who is slated to become a free agent in March. Randle El, a 4-year veteran out of Indiana, would not only shore up the ailing receiving corps, but also provide the Bears with a much-needed threat on kickoff and punt returns.

After an outstanding collegiate career as a quarterback, Randle El was selected in the second round of the 2002 draft by the Steelers and immediately converted into a wide receiver. He had 47 catches for 489 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie campaign while playing behind Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress. In that same season, Randle El also emerged as a dangerous return man on special teams, racking up 990 total yards in that department. During his four years in Pittsburgh, Randle El had 3,336 return yards and 5 touchdowns.

Randle El won the starting job that was vacated by Burress this year and could easily replace Justin Gage as the #2 receiver in the Chicago lineup alongside Muhsin Muhammad. The Bears would be looking to take advantage of Randle El's speed and athleticism on key third down situations. In addition, Randle El's experience as a quarterback would give the Bears several "trick play" options (he threw a 51-yard touchdown pass against Cleveland this season) as well as an emergency backup on game days.
