There were a handful of prominent Hall of Fame snubs on Saturday when the six '06 inductees were announced. Guys like former Cowboys great Michael Irvin and former Bills legend Thurman Thomas headline the list of guys that supposedly "deserved" to get in to Canton, but perhaps the biggest snub got almost no national attention at all.

Who am I referring to? None other than Chicago Bears great Richard Dent.

The worst part about Dent's failure to get in this time around is that he actually slipped in terms of how far he got in the voting process. After making it to the final cut two years in a row, the former Chicago Bears defensive end didn't even make it to the final 10 this year.

Richard Dent played 15 NFL seasons, 11 of which were with the Bears. He made it to four Pro Bowls while in Chicago and is the team's all-time sack leader. Dent had a total of 141 sacks in his career, including 17 in 1985. Those numbers alone make him worthy of the Hall of Fame, but Dent has an ace up his sleeve with regards to entering the hallowed halls in Canton.

In 1985, Dent was instrumental in their Super Bowl XX triumph over the New England Patriots. He collected 1.5 sacks and forced two fumbles, harassing Patriots' quarterback Steve Grogan all night long and earning Super Bowl MVP honors; a rare accomplishment for defensive players.

Usually players with solid career stats and larger than life performance in a Super Bowl win are on the fast track to Hall of Fame induction. Let's hope that is the case with Richard Dent.
