The Chicago Bears signed kicker Doug Brien to a 1 year contract. Two weeks after his release from the New York Jets, Brien has been brought in to compete with Paul Edinger.

Brien missed 2 field goals - from 47 and 43 yards, respectively - in the final 2 minutes of the fourth quarter as the Jets lost in overtime in their divisional playoff contest at the Pittsburgh Steelers' Heinz Field. The week before, Brien successfully kicked a 28 yarder in overtime at the San Diego Chargers to clinch a wild-card playoff win.

The 34 year old Brien was 24 of 29 on field goals (82.8 percent) and 33 of 34 on extra points last year, with 1 blocked kick.

At 81.1 percent for his career, he ranks as the 10th-most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history among kickers with a minimum of 100 attempts.

The University of California product has had 7 kicks blocked in 11 pro seasons.
