The Cincinnati Bengals signed running back Rudi Johnson to a 5 year contract. His agent, Peter Schaffer, said the deal was close to $26 million, with $12 million guaranteed.

This contract replaces a 1 year, $6.3 million deal Johnson signed earlier in the month. He was designated the team's franchise player on February 15.

Johnson, quarterback Carson Palmer and wide receivers Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are now signed with the Bengals through 2008.

Last year, Johnson set the Bengals' season record for rushing yards with 1,454 yards. He tied the team record for 100 yard rushing games in a season (5) and led the Bengals with 12 touchdowns.
