The Bills are an apt metaphor for America.

Hardly anything works the way it should, and no mechanism exists for fixing the obvious problems.

As children, we somehow buy the grade school propaganda that everything is good and great. We have a wholesome leadership/government that protects us and looks carefully out for our interests so we can sleep easily. If our leaders should go off target, we can reorient the march by changing the leaders. Our land is a meritocracy, so just work hard, do the right thing, and all will turn out swell.

As it turns out, these childish beliefs are delusional.

We are merely a crop being farmed by profiteers. They are even unwilling to waste fertilizer on us. The harvest is diminishing, and they are moving elsewhere, leaving us a barren.

Things are so blatantly bad that the optimism well is nearly dry. It's likely that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It's altogether possible that the tunnel dead ends. That's far from the happy ending we presumed at the outset. So quit whining and live it, or live with it.
