I want to say yes, the Bills are a legitimate playoff contender. But, my instincts won't allow me to believe that they are legitimate just quite yet. For whatever reason, and there are several, I have concerns that just won't go away. First, the defense is allowing too many yards. Second, the schedule is brutal. Third, the Bills are not stretching the field with a deep threat. Fourth, the Bills can't rely on 4 turnovers and a pick-six every game in order to slow teams down and increase scoring. At some point the defense has to start forcing more punts and slowing teams down the conventional way if they want to win. It is way to early to start thinking about the playoffs of course, but this team is, finally, exciting to watch, and a spot in the playoffs would exceed all of my 2011 expectations by light-years. I hope Chan and some of the player/leaders are keeping the lid on playoff talk, and taking each game as it comes, as they should. If they can take care of business, then the playoffs will be there. I think the Giants game will be a real litmus test. Beating a good team on the road, and getting to 5-1 will speak volumes going into the bye week. This year's team is built so much better - it is larger, smarter, stronger and faster, and is playing with a "no-respect" edge. But, they are a very young team. Can they win difficult road games against good teams? They lost to an underrated Bengals team on the road, a game many expected the Bills to win. I believe that the road record is going to make or break a shot at the playoffs. I believe we will win all the home games. Bottomline is that they can do it. The Bills finally have most of the tools necessary to compete with the marquee teams. They are for real, finally! And maybe, just maybe, talk of the Bills being a legitimate playoff contender can start with a statement-making win over the Giants.

I think they're capable, but I'm not so sure that they will. To keep pace they need to win 2 of the next 3, but losing 2 of the...
