This article is the first in a series of articles that I will be featuring, regarding Bills players that could have a career year in the upcoming 2012 season. Of course, most of the players that are on this list are on the defensive side of the ball. The players that I have chosen are in no particular order. First up, Defensive Tackle (DT) Kyle Williams.

In 2010, Kyle Williams had 77 Tackles (54 solo, 23 Assisted), 5.5 sacks and 1 Pass Defended (PD). Despite switching from a 4-3 DT, Williams was adjusting his new position as a 3-4 Nose Tackle (NT). Instead of going through growing pains learning a new position, Williams led the team in sacks with 5.5, and posted the best numbers of his NFL career. First off, NT’s aren't supposed to register 5.5 sacks. Secondly, if the NT’s leading the team in sacks, that means that the defense is creating no pressure from the edge, meaning that there were no elite edge rusher that the offense has to worry about double teaming, and the line can focus even more attention to stopping the NT. A year later, in 2011, Kyle Williams went on Injured Reserve to remove bone spurs from his left heel. Kyle Williams had a bone spur in his left heel since college that was basically shaped like a pick ax, and was gradually tearing away his Achilles tendon. He had been playing through intense pain for a few years before it became unbearable and he elected to have the surgery done. That's right, Williams had been playing through pain during the 2010 season, when he registered 5.5 sacks as a 3-4 NT. How scary is it to think that Williams may now be able to play pain free for the first time since his LSU days?

With his Achilles tendon repaired, fellow DT Marcell Dareus having a full offseason to prepare for the season, plus being complemented by two very good pass rushing Defensive Ends in Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, Kyle Williams could easily shatter his old stats in the 2012 season.
