With the loss of soon-to-be NFL offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus, the first thing most people in the know do is look to the already experienced possible replacements. Smart strategy, for sure. However, this season the Boston College Eagles and head coach Jeff Jagodzinski have also lured one heck of a soon-to-be freshman offensive tackle to Boston. His name is Mike Goodman.

Mike Goodman is a 6-foot-5, 270 pound offensive tackle from Miami, Florida (Columbus High School) that runs the 40 yard dash in 5.2 seconds. Thus, he has the potential size to play the position not only in the ACC but also the NFL down the road. Does this four star player have Sunday kind of skills?

Well, you never really know that until they’ve played a significant amount of college ball. Here’s what we do know, however. Rivals considered Mike Goodman to be the 22nd best offensive tackle prospect in the entire 2008 class. What’s more, he was also considered the 30th best player coming out of the state of Florida.

Thirtieth in Delaware isn’t all that hot. But in Florida?

Steaming.

The word on Goodman is very good all around. He gives excellent effort. He has excellent feet, power, and strength. Further, he already uses proper technique and is both an outstanding pass blocker as well as a pancake kind of guy downfield. He even drive blocks well.

Doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

In the end, Goodman chose the Eagles over the likes of the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Indiana Hoosiers, Maryland Terrapins, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, South Carolina Gamecocks, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Wisconsin Badgers.

Will he start as a freshman? Probably not: That’s a very tall order for any recruit. Then again, that’s exactly what they said about four star prospect Lee Ziemba in Auburn last season, and he started the whole year.

So you never know.
