At least it will be cooler this weekend for the Denver Broncos when they face off against the San Diego Chargers. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-70s at Invesco Field in Denver on Sunday, where the Broncos will host San Diego at 4:15 EDT. Last Sunday, the Broncos wilted in the South Florida heat and fell 34-10 to the Miami Dolphins in their opener.

The game was a downer all the way around for the Denver Broncos, which lost RB Mike Anderson to bruised ribs and star DB Champ Bailey to a dislocated shoulder. Both are questionable for Sunday's game, although Bailey insists he'll be able to keep his string of 100 straight starts alive.

Another question mark involves Denver QB Jake Plummer, who misfired on six straight passes to open the Miami game. Last year, San Diego intercepted him four times. Moreover, the Broncos' uncertain running back situation was reflected in a 1-for-4 performance inside the Miami red zone.

The San Diego Chargers will receive a significant boost from the presence of TE Antonio Gates, who sat out the opener as punishment for reporting late to training camp. This gives QB Drew Brees a large and active second-option receiver, and will take some pressure off WR Keenan McCardell. Brees threw two touchdown passes in a 28-24 loss to Dallas last week, but also served up two interceptions, the second (a deflection off WR Eric Parker) snuffing the team's final drive.

San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson was held in check by the Cowboys, but may be the best back in the league.

The San Diego Chargers are 1-10 at Denver's home field.
