The best team in the AFC

Let’s see, after three games, old AFC reliables in the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts have suffered from too many dead key men walking; near-championship threats the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars have been exposed as mortals; the San Diego Chargers have not quite finished their customary 1-3 hole to start the season but remain primed for a just-too-low playoff seed; and those upstart bandwagon gatherers, the Cleveland Browns . . . well, forget 'em.

In the AFC, then, whom should early focus shift toward? How about a nice 1990s flashback featuring the 3-0 Buffalo Bills and fellow undefeateds the Denver Broncos, whose offense is presently the NFL's best?

Commentary: It even gets better for the Broncs and their backers this weekend with a visit to abysmal Kansas City on Sunday. Denver will hardly need to flex its muscle to run up the score in this one: While Mike Shanahan’s insane Orange Smush offense is averaging 37 points a game, the Chiefs have yet to score more than two TDs in any game. The Kansas City defense, meanwhile, has been run over by Michael Turner and Darren McFadden, while quarterbacks Matt Cassel, JaMarcus Russell and Matt Ryan have piled up – get this – a cumulative rating of 113.7.

That’s bad.

The only question going into Sunday for the Broncos should be: Say, what’s the perfect QB rating? Afterward, the sole unknown remaining will be: Exactly when will the pundits and blogosphere rightfully acknowledge the Broncos as the current alpha dogs of the AFC?”

(And they're even dominating without a defense.)

Fantasy Football Impact: Happy you drafted Brandon Marshall despite that Week 1 suspension, aren't you? Yeah, good for **#^%^ing you. A noticeable number of fantasy owners are dropping and/or benching Eddie Royal all of a sudden; yes, sure, Marshall could well be near Randy Moss levels in fantasy terms, but there are more than enough passing yards and TDs to go around here. Particularly this week. Grab Royal and/or start him now; you surely won’t be disappointed.

Fan Pulse: You can imagine; right up there with a habitual freebaser using a treadmill. Just to give you a taste of Bronco community trash talking, check out a thread begun by one CMHargrove over at The Orange Mane fan forum entitled “Holy ****, They Might Start Huard!” An apparent pro-KC poster (With 20,000-plus posts at The Mane? Huh?) named Bob’s Your Information Minister pleads a seemingly losing case with “We might have a chance at beating you with Huard” and ... runs out of gas.
