ESPN is reporting that the Denver Broncos have signed Courtney Brown. The young defensive end was released earlier this offseason by the Cleveland Browns for salary cap reasons. Brown was the first overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft.

The 6'4", 290 lbs. DE will be reunited in Denver with former Browns' DT Gerard Warren and defensive line coach Andre Patterson. Warren was traded to the Broncos for a fourth-round pick in the 2005 draft.

Patterson was the Browns' DL coach in 2003-2004. He lobbied his new team to acquire Brown and Warren despite the injury history of both players.

Brown played in only 2 games during 2004 due to a torn foot ligament. He only recorded 2 tackles last year.

After playing all 16 games in 2000, Brown has since missed 33 games because of injuries. The former Penn State University player has recorded 171 tackles, 17 sacks, 22 passes deflected, 7 forced fumbles, and 6 fumble recoveries in 47 games over 5 seasons with the Browns.

Brown will take the place Reggie Hayward, who departed as a free agent to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
