The Denver Broncos signed Jerry Rice to a 1 year contract with Denver. The greatest receiver of all time will attempt to finish his career as a backup for the Broncos. Rice, who leads the NFL in catches, yards and touchdowns, apparently has no desire to play beyond the upcoming season. However, he is hoping to play his 21st season in the NFL.

Rice is the NFL's career leader in receptions with 1,549; total receiving yards with 22,895; and TD receptions with 197, all far ahead of anyone else. He also leads in total TDs with 207, 32 more than Emmitt Smith.

Rice will be reunited in Denver with coach Mike Shanahan. The long-time Broncos coach was the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 1992 to 1994.

Shanahan has said that Rice wouldn't be guaranteed a spot on the roster and only 5 WRs will make the roster. He is likely play behind Rod Smith, Ashley Lelie and Darius Watts.

The 6'2", 200 pound Rice had 30 catches for 429 yards (14.3 ypc) and 3 TDs for the Seattle Seahawks in 2004.

Rice was the 16th pick of the 1985 draft for the Niners. The team traded up to select him after setting several NCAA records at Division I-AA Mississippi Valley State. Rice then played for the Oakland Raiders from 2001 until 2003, before joining the Seahawks last season.
