After missing the final 14 games of 2004 with a foot injury, newly acquired Denver Broncos defensive end Courtney Brown was hoping a change of scenery would also signify a change in his injury fortunes. So far, no good.
Brown, the number one overall selection by the Cleveland Browns in the 2000 NFL Draft, dislocated his left elbow on the practice field Thursday in what Coach Mike Shanahan called "a freak accident". Tapes showed that a helmet connected directly with Brown's elbow, causing the 300 pound lineman to burst out in agony.

Fortunately for Courtney Brown and the Denver Broncos, x-rays on his elbow were negative, meaning he will be out only 3 to 4 weeks. Its possible Brown could return in time for Denver's pre-season finale. Barring any major setbacks, he should be ready for the team's opener versus the Dolphins in Miami on September 11th.

Until he is ready, veterans Marco Coleman and Ebenezer Ekuban will get most of the playing time in Brown's place. Newly acquired John Engleberger, who came over last month from San Francisco in a trade for cornerback Willie Middlebrooks, is also in the mix for playing time.
