Browns CB Daven Holly suffered a severe injury to his left knee during practice Tuesday, which will end his 2008 season. Holly signed his restricted free-agent tender Thursday, and he will be waived by the Browns. This will allow him to be placed on injured reserve once he clears waivers. The move will give him his full salary for the 2008 season.

The Browns already cut veteran CB Kenny Wright earlier this offseason, and they traded another veteran CB, Leigh Bodden, to Detroit in part of their deal for DT Shaun Rogers. The front-runners for the starting corner positions in Cleveland are Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald, both of whom are in their second year in the NFL.

Commentary: A good offensive team shows its Achilles heel. With strong passing offenses in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the Browns are going to have to get experienced at cornerback in a hurry. Baltimore lost starting CBs Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle to injury last season, and they struggled mightily against the pass as a result. Cleveland signed Jereme Perry last week after being released in Miami, and A.J. Davis played on Cleveland's practice squad in 2007.

Fantasy Impact: While people wouldn't have looked to take the Browns' defense very high in fantasy drafts before they traded Bodden, released Wright and lost Holly, KR Josh Cribbs alone might have been enough to take a flier on them late in drafts. With their secondary suspect at best now, owners will likely stay away from Cleveland in the draft.
