Cleveland Browns tight end Aaron Shea announced his retirement Friday.

Commentary: Shea caught 97 passes for 851 yards and seven touchdowns over the course of 65 games during his NFL career with the Browns from 2000-2005. He started 30 games for the Browns during that stretch.

"My back just could not do it," Shea told ESPN Radio 850. "Today, I decided to retire. As much as I wanted to come back and play in a Browns uniform, holding my girls and stuff like that is just a little more important."

Shea missed the 2006 and 2007 seasons with back injuries.
