CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns signed punter Kyle Richardson, who spent the entire 2004 season on injured reserve, to a 1 year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

An 8 year veteran, Richardson was a member of the 2000 Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens when new Browns general manager Phil Savage served as an assistant to Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. In 1999, Richardson set an NFL record with 39 punts inside the 20-yard line.

Richardson spent the last two seasons with the Bengals, averaging 40.0 yards per punt in 11 games in 2003. Last season, he suffered a torn bicep while making a tackle in the exhibition opener at Tampa Bay and was placed on injured reserve.

The Browns on Friday also named former Patriots tight end Ben Coates as their TE coach.
