The Cleveland Browns will obtaing the rights safety Brian Russell. The Minnesota Vikings decided not to match the Browns' offer for the restricted free agent.

Russell had signed an offer sheet for a 2 year contract with Cleveland last week. However, the Vikings publicly announced the team would not match it. The Vikings had tendered Russell a minimum 1 year qualifying offer of $656,000.

The 6'2", 204 lbs. safety had 81 tackles, 1 interception, 6 deflected passes, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery in 16 games during 2004. The former San Diego State Aztec has played for the Vikings all 3 years as a pro, recording 200 tackles, 11 INTs, 9 passes defended, and 2 fumble recoveries.
