Cleveland Browns left tackle Ross Verba will be skipping offseason workouts until the team gives him a multi-year contract extension. Verba has 2 years remaining on his current contract.

The 8 year veteran is due about $7.2 million for the next 2 seasons. Verba said the Browns have reneged on an earlier promise to upgrade his contract. He restructured his contract in 2004 in order to save some salary-cap room. The Browns have already paid Verba a $465,000 roster bonus for this season. His absence from team practices could negate a $200,000 workout bonus.

Verba missed all of 2003 with a ruptured biceps tendon. In 2004, he was the only Browns lineman to start all 16 games. The former Iowa standout was a first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 1997. Verbas has started 100 of the 106 games he has appeared in his career.
