The Cleveland Browns will release offensive tackle Ross Verba when he repays a $465,000 roster bonus paid in March. Verba announced a check could get to the Browns as soon as Thursday afternoon.

The 8 year veteran sat out coach Romeo Crennel's voluntary minicamp demanding a new contract. Verba claimed that former coach Butch Davis promised to renegotiate his contract last year when the tackle was coming off a biceps injury that forced him to sit out all of 2003.

Cleveland's new general manager - Phil Savage - has publicly stated he will not honor any promises Davis made while running the Browns. Furthermore, the Browns recently signed former Arizona tackle LJ Shelton and veteran tackle Marcus Spears to offset Verba's imminent departure.
