Pro Football Reference's ongoing series ranking the best players by franchise extends into the NFC West.

According to PFR's Approximate Value method, Buccaneers LB Derrick Brooks is the best player in the history of the four teams in the NFC West - Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Atlanta and Carolina. Brooks earned a score of 134 to top the list. Saints LB Ricky Jackson was the second highest with 106, and Bucs DT Warren Sapp was third at 105.

One point of intrigue was the absence of former Falcons franchise QB Michael Vick. He was replaced by another ex-Falcons No. 1 overall pick, Steve Bartkowski.

A poster commented, "Just out of curiosity, was Michael Vick even close to catching Bartkowski for Atlanta’s QB spot?"

Vick finished with a 62 to Bartkowski's 67.

Saints and Panthers LB Sam Mills made both teams' all-time roster, as did Bucs and Falcons RB Warrick Dunn.

In response to a question about the likelihood of that happening, the author posted a comment, "I haven’t checked it, but Reggie White is a lock to make it on two teams. I’m sure there are others."

Brooks is definitely the best ever out of that division. And I would say that Warren Sapp should be one of the top guys to.
