Week 16 and where do we find the Bucs? Sunk in the harbor no doubt. Raheem Morris’ job is on the hot seat, the defense gives up the big plays, and the offense continues to turn over the ball at an alarming rate. The Bucs find themselves with a 4-10 record. Hardly the worst in team history, but it is safe to say there will be no parades, let alone jockeying for postseason positions. A chance at victory for one last time is in peril with two road games against Carolina and Atlanta left. Alas, Raheem will most likely be asked to leave when the season concludes.
Now, some people think maybe a different coach will get this team back I the right direction. I personally feel the Bucs have the right man. The lockout had a devastating effect on this young squad. A full offseason to work out together with the added sting of this season is the recipe the Bucs will need for future success. Granted, there will be issues addressed at the upcoming Draft in April. The defensive line must be upgraded, as well as the linebacking core.
I would feel more assured to know that Josh Freeman not only promises to throw fewer interceptions, but to NOT throw more interceptions in 2012. The turnovers on the offensive side of the ball have consistently killed any success for this squad. There have been games where the running game has been completely abandoned and sometimes it can be understandable. For instance, when the 49ners are lighting you up for 40 plus points, it may be a bad time to worry about setting up the run. Usually the turnovers shut down the run game when the opponents have time to run up the score on a habitually short field.
The course of action is to stay the course. Keep Raheem. Make smart draft choices. Have productive offseason workouts. Besides, with that Mayan calendar setting to expire, is rebuilding such a good idea?
