Oceanside High (Oceanside, Calif.) offensive guard Brian Schwenke gave his solid verbal to Cal on Tuesday for the ’09 class.

Rivals rates the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder who sports a 3.9 grade-point average as a three-star prospect. He chose Berkeley over Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Stanford, among others. Kenwick Thompson and Jim Michalczik are credited as co-primaries.

COMMENTARY: The Bears now have a total of three commitments for the class, and Schwenke is the second verbal since the beginning of June. Cal will have to pick up the pace to compete with USC, UCLA and Stanford. (Yes, Stanford is out-recruiting Cal at the moment.)
