Former NFL lineman Luis Sharpe has been sentenced to six years in prison and four years’ probation for drug offenses.

Commentary: Sharpe, 47, played for both the St. Louis and Arizona Cardinals from 1982-94. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times. Unfortunately, it was when he was a 21-year-old rookie that he first used cocaine, a drug that continues to be Sharpe's enemy today.

Sharpe has been convicted of nine felonies since 1995 and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in 2004 on drug charges. Last month, Sharpe pleaded guilty to four different drug charges from separate arrests.

Doesn’t matter how strong or athletic you are: Drugs are tougher.
