Obviously, some of the problems the 3-5 San Diego Chargers have had this year stem from injuries. Tight end Antonio Gates was hit hard last season with a dislocated toe, so much so that it forced him to undergo surgery last February. It's taken awhile for him to recover from the procedure, but it seems Gates is again ready to take his rightful place as one of the NFL's top tight ends.

Commentary: Gates has been no slouch this season, having caught 30 passes for 403 yards and five touchdowns. Solid numbers, yes, but they represent a work in progress for a star like Gates. When healthy, Gates is as deadly a target as any receiver in the game. His mixture of size and speed give linebackers fits, and now that he is healthy the entire San Diego offense will open up. Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson have received much of the press lately, but it's Gates who should be quarterback Philip Rivers' focus.

Fan Pulse:
Chargers fans are fired up over the fact that LaDainian Tomlinson and Gates are "just about 100 percent" back to health.

Fantasy Football Commentary: It will be a tight end battle of titanic proportions this week when Gates and the Kansas City Chiefs' Tony Gonzalez meet up. Gates is the better fantasy option.

Injury Watch:
A bye week has all the San Diego starters ready to do some damage to their opponents.
