The San Diego Chargers signed tight end Brandon Manumaleuna to a new three-year contract through 2009. The financial details of the contract were not made available.

Commentary: The former University of Arizona star was acquired from the Rams in 2006, on draft day. He had 14 receptions for 91 yards and three TDs last season. Manumaleuna is mainly used as a run blocker and is the backup to stud TE Antonio Gates.

Fantasy impact: Manumaleuna is not used in the offense as a pass catcher, so he is not a viable option for fantasy football. He is however more valuable as a run blocker. This should mean continued success for LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers' ground game.
