The San Diego Chargers may have lost one of their young prospects for the entire 2005 season. Backup linebacker and special teams star Carlos Polk tore his left Achilles tendon during an offseason workout session last Wednesday. The Chargers medical staff optimistically projects 6 month recovery period for Polk, but more than likely he will be out at least until the playoffs.

The 6 foot 2 inch, 262 pound Polk missed all but 1 game last season as a result of a shoulder injury. He finished with 1 tackle in 2004.

A fourth-round pick out of the University of Nebraska in 2001, Polk served as a reserve at both the inside and outside linebacker positions. Polk had starred on special teams in 2002 and 2003.
