KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kansas City Chiefs signed unrestricted free agent safety Sammy Knight to a 5 year contract. Knight has played in 126 career games, spending the last 2 seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

The 29 year-old Knight has made 96 straight starts dating back to his days with the New Orleans Saints. He spent his first 6 seasons with the Saints, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2001. His 35 career interceptions are the NFL's second-highest total over the past 8 seasons, trailing only Darren Sharper, who has 36 during that span.

Knight has played both strong and free safety while registering 6 consecutive seasons with 100 or more tackles. Last season he led the Dolphins with 4 INTs.

The Chiefs ranked last in the NFL in total defense in 2004.
