The Kansas City Chiefs face another glitch in their defensive lineup now that projected starter Julian Battle tore his left Achilles' Tendon on Saturday (June 18th) while practicing. Battle was projected to start in the place of troubled cornerback Eric Warfield, who was charged with driving under the influence earlier this year.

Because Warfield was sentenced to jail time and house arrest as well as being in violation of the NFL's policy on drugs and alcohol, cornerback Julian Battle was thrust into the starting role. Back in 2003 Battle was a third round draft pick out of Tennessee. Since that time he has played 26 games with the Kansas City Chiefs, starting once in 2004.

Battle will not be able to play during the 2005 NFL season. Chiefs head coach, Dick Vermeil, has announced that Battle will need surgery and will not be playing with the Chiefs this year. The Coach also stated that cornerback Dexter McCleon will be moved to a starting position if Warfield is suspended for any regular season games due to his violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
