Anthony Hoke may have met his future in the Hawaiian Islands last week -- not a romance, but a new position on the football field.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder played defensive end for the Cincinnati Bearcats and finished his career second all-time behind current Cleveland Brown Antwan Peek with 21 sacks. In 2007, Hoke had 13 sacks and 16 tackles for loss and finished the regular season with a rush -- literally (six sacks in his last three games).

At the Hula Bowl, however, Hoke was plugged in as a middle linebacker, racking up four tackles. Although his 4.5 speed might arguably make him a potential Dwight Freeney, the pros see him more as a linebacker. (Interestingly, the UC Web site lists Hoke as 255 pounds.)

A graduate of Harding High School in Warren, Ohio (which also produced Paul Warfield, Maurice Clarett, Mario Manningham and Prescott Burgess, among others), Hoke was ranked by at least one scouting service in the top 40 out of 235 outside linebackers. As of mid-January, however, he had not been invited to the NFL Combine.

A second-team All-Big East choice as a senior and starter on the conference All-Freshman team three years ago, Hoke is a criminal justice major. And there's no justice if he doesn't get drafted.
