Apparently, the University of Cincinnati football program can now stand on its own.

The school announced this week that it had broken the record for football season-ticket sales with 9,426, snapping the previous record of 9,151 and accounting for roughly one quarter of the seats in Nippert Stadium (35,097 capacity). This comes two years after UC removed a requirement that basketball season-ticket holders also sign up for football and despite a less than scintillating non-conference home schedule (Eastern Kentucky and Miami of Ohio).

Big East rivals Rutgers, South Florida, Pitt and Syracuse will also visit Nippert this season.

The Bearcats were 10-3 and a bowl team last season, Brian Kelly was Coach of the Year in the Big East, and Cincinnati has a strong team returning, especially on defense.
