Tiger head coach Tommy Bowden announced star running back James Davis will sit out the remainder of spring practice due to a shoulder injury sustained March 13.

"He hurt it in the scrimmage Thursday [March 13]," Bowden said. "He hit somebody. It was a good collision between him and Chris Clemons."

It is currently unknown the exact nature of Davis' injury.

Also, wide receiver-turned-linebacker Rendrick Taylor will move back to offense.

"Rendrick is up to 242 so we are going to try him at tailback a little bit," Bowden said. "It is something we'll experiment with and try him there. He needs the ball in his hands. He feels comfortable with the ball in his hands."

Taylor was moved to linebacker earlier this year due to significant need at the position and due to his size (6-foot-2, 242-pounds).

Commentary: At first glance, it was scary to hear about Davis' injury given he opted out of the NFL draft to return to Clemson. However, it does appear that his injury isn't serious. Keeping him out of spring ball clearly is a measure of keeping him healthy entering fall drills. And the Tigers will need Davis at 100 percent if they are to have a chance at an ACC title.

On Taylor, it is indeed good the senior will be put back on offense, albeit a different position. This is where Taylor needs to be, and injuries aside he is very effective and has great hands. Besides, the Tigers need the best bona-fide linebackers they can get given the eligibilities of Tremaine Billie and Nick Watkins ran out after last season and the possible losses of Cortney Vincent due to off-field troubles and Antonio Clay due to withdrawal from school for personal reasons.
