Clemson University will pay over a combined $3 million to its football coaches this year. As previously known, head coach Tommy Bowden's deal will be worth at least $1.5 million.

The assistant coaches salaries this year are as follows:

Vic Koenning (DC) $260,000 (up from $240,000)

Rob Spence (OC) $250,000 (up from $200,000)

Brad Scott (Assoc HC, OL) $200,000 (up from $158,000)

Dabo Swinney (Asst HC, WR) $200,000 (up from $195,000)

Ron West (OLB) $150,000 (up from $142,000)

David Blackwell (ILB) $142,000 (no change)

Andre Powell (RB, ST) $ 125,000 (up from $120,000)

Chris Rumph (DL) $120,000 (up from $95,000)

Billy Napier (TE, RC) $110,000 (up from $75,000)

Koenning will be guaranteed $275,000 in 2009 and $290,000 in 2010, while Spence will get $260,000 in 2009 and $270,000 in 2010.

Scott will no longer receive the additional $38,000 to his base salary.

Commentary: These contracts are multi-year, as the pay runs through either 2009 or 2010 for the coaches. Which is good to ensure longevity. While Scott no longer receives his additional $38,000, his raise is $42,000 so he ends up with a net increase. It’s odd that David Blackwell received no raise and that Billy Napier, the recruiting coordinator, is the lowest-paid of the staff.
